Angel is 12 years old and in the 6th grade. She is from a small village near Kabasalan where the living conditions are extremely poor. Her family struggles to provide for her and get her to the school for education. Angel lives in the area of Kabasalan on the island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines. This region struggles greatly with extreme poverty. The burden this extreme poverty puts on a family is simply overwhelming, consequently many of the children are forced to work and help financially support the family as a child laborer. This is just one tragic outcome as the children here are also highly susceptible to child trafficking, gang enslavement and starvation.
