Edrien, who goes by Kian, is 12 years old. He lives with his parents and three siblings. He is currently in the 6ht grade and hopes to become a soldier in the future, so he can fight for his country and serve his people. Kian lives in the area of Kabasalan on the island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines. This region struggles greatly with extreme poverty. The burden this extreme poverty puts a family is simply overwhelming, consequently many of the children are forced to work and help financially support the family as a child laborer. This is just one tragic outcome as the children here are also highly susceptible to child trafficking, gang enslavement and starvation.
