Johanna, who goes by Bibi for short, is 9 years old. She lives with her parents and three siblings. Her parents work as rubber tappers to provide for the family. She is currently in 4th grade and hopes to become a police officer someday. Johanna lives in the area of Kabasalan on the island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines. This region struggles greatly with extreme poverty. The burden this extreme poverty puts a family is simply overwhelming, consequently many of the children are forced to work and help financially support the family as a child laborer. This is just one tragic outcome as the children here are also highly susceptible to child trafficking, gang enslavement and starvation.
