Amerkhan is 6 years old. He lives with his mother and step-father and twin sisters. His father works in construction and his mother stays home to care for the family. When he grows up he wants to become a police officer.

Amerkhan lives in the area of Kabasalan on the island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines. This region struggles greatly with extreme poverty. The burden this extreme poverty puts on a family is simply overwhelming, consequently many of the children are forced to work and help financially support the family as a child laborer. This is just one tragic outcome as the children here are also highly susceptible to child trafficking, gang enslavement and starvation.
