Celmar is 11 years old and in the 5th grade. He lives with his parents and siblings. Celmar is the youngest of 8 children. He hopes to become a policeman in the future, so he can protect people from danger and also help provide for his family. Celmar lives in the area of Kabasalan on the island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines. This region struggles greatly with extreme poverty. The burden this extreme poverty puts a family is simply overwhelming, consequently many of the children are forced to work and help financially support the family as a child laborer. This is just one tragic outcome as the children here are also highly susceptible to child trafficking, gang enslavement and starvation.
