Jacob is 7 years old and in the 1st grade. He lives with his parents and his father works construction to provide for the family. He has big dreams of joining the army and becoming a solider, so he can help support his parents. Jacob lives in the area of Kabasalan on the island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines. This region struggles greatly with extreme poverty. The burden this extreme poverty puts a family is simply overwhelming, consequently many of the children are forced to work and help financially support the family as a child laborer. This is just one tragic outcome as the children here are also highly susceptible to child trafficking, gang enslavement and starvation.
