Julmar, who goes by Indong, is 7 years old. He currently lives with his parents and his father works as a driver to provide for their family. He hopes to become a soldier someday, so he can help provide for his family and serve his county. Julmar lives in the area of Kabasalan on the island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines. This region struggles greatly with extreme poverty. The burden this extreme poverty puts a family is simply overwhelming, consequently many of the children are forced to work and help financially support the family as a child laborer. This is just one tragic outcome as the children here are also highly susceptible to child trafficking, gang enslavement and starvation.
