Jerciel is 9 years and lives with his parents and siblings. His father works as a farmer to provide for their family. He would love to finish his studies and become a policeman someday and help provide for his family. Jerciel lives in the area of Kabasalan on the island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines. This region struggles greatly with extreme poverty. The burden this extreme poverty puts a family is simply overwhelming, consequently many of the children are forced to work and help financially support the family as a child laborer. This is just one tragic outcome as the children here are also highly susceptible to child trafficking, gang enslavement and starvation.
